A team of investigators will investigate the Mariannhill massacre: MEC – SABC News

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Safety and Community Liaison Neliswa Nkonyeni said a team of investigators had been formed to investigate the shooting at a tuck shop in Savannah Park in Mariannhill.

Six people died at the scene and one died in hospital.

Nkonyeni said the police are following all possible leads. Nkonyeni also said that the police have started a program to visit liquor stores across the region to check if they have the necessary licences.

“The police have joined the number of people investigating the matter now. We give them the opportunity to investigate and produce a report related to what is the purpose of the crime committed here. The police have started to visit all the hotels in KZN and even yesterday there was an operation where the police were working in all areas of KZN.”

Victims

Among those killed was the owner of the tuck shop and his two sons.

Simphiwe Mpithimpithi said he still can’t believe that his father, Phumlani, is dead. His father was among those shot on Saturday.

The family of Mzobe, who lost four members of their family in a shooting at a shopping mall, have called on the police to investigate the matter thoroughly and arrest the killers.
