A woman tied to a car was dragged to death by the crowd in Limpopo

  • A 37-year-old woman died after being allegedly tied up behind her car and dragged for several miles between the villages of Salema and Xikundu.
  • Basani Portia Shuma was accused by the crowd of being responsible for the disappearance of a local man who had been missing for two weeks.
  • Police in Limpopo said the crowd set fire to the woman’s home and damaged her car.

A 37-year-old woman died after being allegedly tethered behind her car and dragged for several miles in a suspected mass attack in the village of Salema in Limpopo.

Police spokesman Brigadier General Motlafela Mojapelo said they had received a complaint about an alert incident in the area at around 10pm on Monday.

Mojapelo added, the crowd threatened to set fire to Basani’s home in Portia Shuma, who was thought to have been a shark shark in the area.

“According to the news, the mafia has accused him of being responsible for the disappearance of a local man who allegedly disappeared two weeks ago.

“Police hurried to the scene and found that the crowd had tied the victim to his car and dragged him to the bushes. The crowd then tossed stones at the police as he tried to locate the victim.

“The crowd was disbanded with rubber bullets and police managed to rescue the victim, who was tied up and dragged in a car between the villages of Salema and Xikundu.”

Mojapelo said the crowd set fire to the woman’s home and damaged her car.

The woman was taken to Malamulele Hospital but died on arrival, he added.

Proceedings have been filed for murder, public violence, arson and malicious property damage.

Police launched a chase after the suspects.
