Accused accused of racism at Stellenbosch University opens trial – SABC News

A racist at Stellenbosch University who saw a white student urinating and his belongings has opened a case of domestic assault, vandalism, and racism at a local police station.

The alleged racist incident took place over the weekend at De Huis Marais residence.

Students at the university are calling for the punishment to be meted out to the alleged perpetrator.

Video shows a white student in a man’s home, Huis Marais, urinating on what a black student shouted in public.

The 19-year-old AgriScience student Babalo Ndwayana said the pain had subsided.

The South African Student Congress (SASCO) Ndwayana has joined the case against the perpetrator.

“It still hurts. I can not comment on the matter. I have been convicted of assault, vandalism, and racism. ”

Student officials expect the university to use the case stand firm against racism.

“We and other students are advocating for the expulsion of the perpetrator. We would like to see a change in the industry. De Huis Marais was disbanded in the media last year, but he is not. “We are currently in the process of debating whether to disband it. This statement shows that De Huis Marais is not ready for a cultural change in Stellenbosch,” said SRC President Viwe Khobokana. .

There are calls for change at the university:

SASCO Provincial Convenor, Sifiso Zungu said the accused will be expelled from the university.

“We do not like the suspension. We want the university to be an example by expelling the student. There have been several such cases in De Huis Marais.”

Some students seek anonymity because of fear of reprisals.

“Earlier this year we signed a memorandum of understanding stating that we would not discriminate against one another. It is frustrating now to see such a thing happen, especially for the first year of each other. We are very sad, we hope the university will make a strong and rigorous process. “

The university says it is conducting an investigation into where the defendant was suspended. SASCO has given the university until Thursday to close the case, promising to protest.
