Additional COVID-19 restrictions could be lifted, including masking – SABC News

The Ministry of Health says the government is taking advice from scientific experts on whether it is possible to lift more COVID-19-related restrictions, including wearing face masks.

Health Minister Joe Phaahla has reportedly written to the health council’s district council, recommending that all COVID-19 rules be lifted as the country emerges from the fifth wave of coronary heart disease.

A spokesman for the ministry, Foster Mohale, said an announcement would be made in the coming days.

“As you know, the wave was originally defined by the new variants. But in this case, the fifth wave was driven by sub-variants of Omicron. So they are looking at current regulations and trying to see which ones can be lifted and which ones can be strengthened. This is based on a scientific report submitted by our scientists who advise the Minister in the Cabinet.

Winde calls for the removal of the remaining restrictions on COVID-19

Alan Winde, the Prime Minister of the Western Cape, says he will call for it removal of the remaining restrictions of COVID-19 when they meet with the Presidential Co-operation Council on Wednesday.

Winde says wearing face masks and limiting the number of public gatherings are no longer necessary to protect the country’s health care system.

“Of course, we will push for all COVID-19 restrictions to be removed. For example, we need to get our stadiums back, it would be very good to have a full stadium for the Stormers and Bulls games this weekend in Cape Town, but we need our stadium, our conference center full. “

“We need to make sure that all these rules that apply to tourists coming in and out of our country are removed just like our competitors have all removed these restrictions,” says Winde.

Dear South Africa. Continue with the courts

The South African Civic Association says that while it welcomes the Ministry of Health’s plan to lift all COVID-19 restrictions, it will continue with its lawsuits.

There have been widespread demands for the government to reduce the remaining COVID-19 regulations when the country emerges from the fifth wave of the virus.

Dear South Africa chief executive Rob Hutchinson says the government has been pushing for this decision.

“We have to remember that there are two issues pending here, it is against the restricted regulations that it has been announced that they will withdraw them and these restricted regulations are mask authority, social distance and restrictions on the ability of the venue. “However, there are still draft regulations that were passed by the Disaster Management Act to be permanent under the Health Act and we are still going to court to have those regulations set aside as well,” Hutchinson said.
