JOHANNESBURG — Controversial barrister Barrister Malesela Teffo has said he was advised not to challenge the validity of the arrest warrant against him which resulted in his dramatic arrest at the High Court in Pretoria.

Teffo, who is the attorney for four of the defendants in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, was arrested in Hollywood last month for failing to appear in court for his contempt case.

But when he was arrested, his lawyers told the media that the warrant was invalid.

Teffo said it was because he filed a complaint against the magistrate handling his case.

He still maintains that his arrest was unlawful.

“I’ve been advised accordingly that, look, you don’t have to make an argument, we have nothing to bring that causes the longevity of this bail process. We just want to see you out on bail. and then the rest will follow,” Teffo explained.
