ANC Gauteng meeting continues on Saturday and ends on Sunday – SABC News

The 14th African National Congress (ANC) Gauteng Provincial Conference continues on Saturday at the Lake Hotel in Benoni, east of Johannesburg, and will close on Sunday.

The meeting on Friday had a few unresolved issues, including whether to allow the Ekuruleni area as part of the meeting. However, the PEC has decided that delegates will be able to attend, but noted that their votes will be quarantined.

The meeting ended late Friday night due to credential adoption issues. Delivering his final political report as the outgoing provincial governor, David Makhura asked more than 1000 delegates that this meeting should be solution-focused for the ANC to regain the support it lost in Gauteng.

Saturday’s meeting will focus on the committee, which will discuss updating the policy document with the ANC ahead of the party’s national policy meeting.

Later, PEC members Lebogang Maile and Panyaza Lesufi will look at the issue of electing a new leadership to serve as regional chairperson.

ANC President Cyril Ramophosa will officially close the meeting on Sunday.

ANC veteran and political commentator shares his thoughts on the ANC Gauteng meeting:

Makhura at the meeting

Retired ANC Gauteng District Chairman David Makhura urged the more than 1,000 delegates attending the 14th regional meeting not to focus solely on the election of new leadership.

He said the Provincial Executive Conference (PEC) also decided to focus on the adoption of the report by the Secretariat and the Commission.

Makhura says these meetings must be solution-driven to change the state core at the grassroots level.

“The comrades and compatriots gathered here consider ourselves to have come this far, and it is absolutely important that we are here to find solutions to the people’s problems and policy solutions. And our people don’t expect more than that. As you will see in the order of the discussion, today we will focus on the report I mentioned, and tomorrow we will go to the committee.”
