ANC KZN accepts resignation of premier Sihle Zikalala

The IS African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has accepted the resignation of Premier Sihle Zikalala.

The party says Zikalala offered to resign from the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) on Thursday.

“The PEC communicated with the National Officers of the ANC and they were instructed to make recommendations in relation to the names of three comrades who will undergo an interview process. The names of Cdes Nomusa Dube-Ncube, Amanda Bani and Mbali Fraizer have been submitted and they will be interviewed tomorrow.”

The ANC says it accepted Zikalala’s resignation with pain and difficulty because he was still doing a great job in the province since coming to power.

“We are grateful for the job he has done for the people of this province and we understand that he made a conscious decision not to leave office immediately.

Cde Zikalala’s tenure has brought a lot of good in the province, including several provincial government departments receiving unqualified audit results for the first time. We thank Cde Zikalala for his commitment to serving the people of KwaZulu-Natal as mandated by the ANC,” the party said.

The ANC says a new Premier will be sworn in once the interviews are completed and the provincial legislature confirms Zikalala’s resignation.
