JOHANNESBURG — Some members of the African National Congress (ANC) who led a march to Luthuli House in Johannesburg on Friday have given the party 48 hours to remove President Cyril Ramaphosa from office.

They also say they want an immediate end to load shedding, among other demands.

All roads leading to Luthuli House were blocked at the start of the march and were led by suspended ANC member Carl Niehaus and Supra Mahumapelo.

The ANC march appeared to have been a factional move against the party chairman as there was not much support and no national executives there.

The memorandum was received by ANC member Collen Maine who promised to forward the demands to his superiors.

Some of the demands relate to issues that have resulted in strikes by unions such as Numsa, NUM and Sadtu over a pay rise.

Niehaus said Ramaphosa’s tenure was to serve the capitalist white monopoly, not the ANC.

The ANC has yet to respond to activists’ demands.
