African National Conference ( ANC) confirmed to South Africans that her deputy secretary general Jessie Duarte is alive and well, labeling Sunday reports that she died a fake person.
The party said it was surprised to find out about fake news messages on social media that Duarte died.
He said Duarte had been ill for some time, but was on the road to recovery.
“These fake news messages are very inhuman, barbaric, unattractive and very damaging to the person of the DSG, its family, friends, comrades and the wider democratic mass movement. The ANC is inspired by the DSG, the Duarte comrade who shows strength on a daily basis and I look forward to returning to office soon. ”
Treasurer Paul Mashatile has since been seconded to the office of secretary general following Duarte’s illness.
Duarte was running for the office of Secretary – General Ace Magashule after the latter was suspended due to the numerous corruption charges before him in court.
The party urged those who spread the messages not to do so as it caused unnecessary panic within the movement and among Duarte’s family, friends and colleagues.
“However, if peddlers follow the misleading rumors, the ANC will have no choice but to go to the relevant authorities to investigate the origins and act accordingly on those responsible. We are grateful for the family’s continued support for the deputy secretary general. ”
Meanwhile, the ruling party said it would convene a NEC meeting on Sunday to discuss discussions on processing policy documents. Among the regional and provincial conferences this year, the ANC is also preparing for the national policy conference, which was postponed last year because of Covid-19.
The East Cape is expected to hold its provincial conference from May 6 to 8.
Lulama Ngcukayitobi, coordinator of the ANC provincial task force, said the working committee intended to reschedule the provincial conference pending the resolution of all disputes arising from the branches.
The disputes are before the national dispute resolution committee in Luthuli House.
According to Ngcukayitobi, the province managed to process 160 disputes, with only two remaining.
