The government has agreed to enable the artists who participated in Festival International Creole The 2019 and 2020 editions will be run in a festival revisit format to support them. Therefore, from the third week of January 2022, artists will be able to perform on the camera at the Serge Constantin Theater.
Minister of Arts and Culture, Avinash Teeluck, made this announcement at his office in Port Louis this afternoon.
Minister Teeluck emphasized that the artist’s performance will be recorded and broadcast on social media platforms and television. He observed that this initiative was primarily aimed at providing artists with a form of reward for their performance.
He emphasized that a mechanism will soon be devised and implemented to bring about a total payment of Rs 72 million allocated for the implementation of this revised form of the festival. He added that next year more than 800 artists from a wide range of disciplines will attend the festival.
The minister also signed the agreement starting next weekend, showing that 50% of the allotted amount will be paid. He said the remaining 50% will be paid to the artist after the performance.
In addition, Teeluck said with this year’s post-COVID-19 pandemic hygiene protocol. Festival International CreoleA platform for artists to express their talents, and above all, a source of income for many artists at the end of the year, could not be organized.
The Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage further emphasized that since last year, the COVID-19 pandemic has punished the creative sector and failed to hold several cultural events such as concerts.
