Mamelodi Sundowns comfortably defeated Al-Merrikh 3-0 in their last group stage game of the CAF Champions League on Saturday.
George Maluleka got a rare start for Sundowns while Grant Kekana, Aubrey Modiba and Bradley Ralani were all given some playing time from the start.
It was a positive start for Sundowns. In the fourth minute, a cross from Aubrey Modiba reached Bradley Ralani at the far post, but the defender intervened before the attacker could shoot.
Ralani was in the middle of the action when his shot smashed the goalkeeper seven minutes later but bounced off the post.
The Brazilians were rewarded for their dominance as they took the lead after 15 minutes when George Maluleka scored his first goal for the club after firing in from a Modiba corner.
That goal was a confidence boost for Maluleka as he attempted a free kick from the right that went just over the bar.
The Brazilians continued their dominance after the break and after ten minutes Haashim Domingo gathered in the penalty area and volleyed in just inches wide of the target.
The pace of play settled after a rushed start to the second half, but it was still Sundowns who stored Al-Merrikh in their own half.
The Brazilians doubled their lead in the 66th minute when Haashim released Domingo Ralani and he showed composure to get into the bottom right corner.
Ralani had a striker and became the assist in the 72nd minute when he set up Kermit Erasmus, who threw a fantastic volley into the top of the net.
Lebohang Maboe almost scored the fourth when he curled a beautiful free-kick over the wall and just wide of the left post.
Goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse was called into rare action in the closing stages when he made a good save from Elsamani Saadeldin in the bottom left corner to keep the goal intact.
