SABC Sport believe Orlando Pirates will soon confirm that defender Kwanda Mngonyama is also leaving the club.
The utility player joined the Buccaneers as a free agent from Maritzburg United at the start of the 2021/22 season but has struggled to cement his place with the team despite easily having slotted into the rearguard anywhere.
Pirates are quietly going about their business in the transfer market – on Monday the club announced the arrival of two defenders in Nkosinathi Sibisi and Tapelo Xoki from Golden Arrows and AmaZulu respectively.
The Soweto giants have already ditched striker Gabadinho Mhango, who has joined AmaZulu, and defender Thulani Hlatshwayo ahead of next season.
Soon to follow is Mngonyama, who managed a handful of games – nine, to be precise – during his debut campaign and it seems that’s not enough to prolong his stint with Pirates.
The 28-year-old was at the peak of his career a few seasons ago when he joined the now-defunct Bidvest Wits on loan from the Mamelodi Sundowns and then-manager Gavin Hunt proudly remarked that he made him a Bafana player.
In fact, the player has a single senior national team cap and was part of the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic squad.
SABC sport tried to reach the player’s agent, Sizwe Ntshangase, but he was unavailable at the time of publication.
Should Pirates sack him as expected, he will be hoping to reignite his career elsewhere in the DStv Premiership.
