Armed attackers have killed about 50 people in the violent part of eastern Burkina Faso, the governor of the region.
It is not yet clear who is behind the attack on the residents of the rural town of Madjoari on Wednesday, said Colonel Hubert Yameogo, governor of the eastern region.
Al-Qaeda-linked militants have invaded Burkina Faso, part of the semi-arid Sahel region of West Africa, in recent years.
Wednesday’s attack followed two others this month in Madjoari. One killed 17 civilians and another killed 11 soldiers.
Army officers overthrew the president of Burkina Faso in January, complaining of escalating violence.
