Audi prepares the SA launch of the e-tron electric vehicle

Audi’s latest range of electric vehicles (EV), the e-tron, will be available in South Africa in the first quarter of 2022.

It will be the German multinational automaker’s foray into the local electric vehicle space, after the range has been introduced to other parts of the world in recent months.

As part of the pre-launch phase, South African customers can now reserve their e-tron model of choice at any of Audi’s 10 e-tron dealers nationwide.

According to Audi, the official retail introduction of Audi’s full-fledged EV consists of six new e-tron models across three model lines. This includes the Audi e-tron, e-tron Sportback, S Sportback, e-tron GT and e-tron GT SUVs.

Prices range from R 1.9 million for the advanced e-tron 55 to around R3.3 million for the RS e-tron GT.

The Audi e-tron SUV offers up to 300 kW of power and a range of up to 441 km.

“Announcing our electric vehicle line-up is a key part of our goal of having the youngest product offering on the market and we are excited to share more details with our customers about our electric journey over the coming months. , leading to the e-tron the model’s official introduction to the range during the first quarter of next year, ”said Sascha Sauer, head of Audi South Africa.

“Around the world, the auto industry is announcing plans to phase out combustion engines to advance the transformation of the industry for the future. As Audi South Africa, we see ourselves as being able to contribute to this global vision and have a responsibility to do so. ”

As part of an e-tron purchase, Audi has announced that it will provide for the installation of a 32-amp industrial outlet to support the proper installation of a charging point at the customer’s home.

This configuration will allow the Audi e-tron charger to deliver approximately 7.2 kW of power to a 100% charge in an estimated charging time of 13 hours.

Audi South Africa said it has partnered with Gridcars to give e-tron customers access to South Africa’s growing public charging network, which currently includes more than 280 charging points.
