Barcelona president Joan Laporta said it was “embarrassing and embarrassing” when 30 000 Eintracht Frankfurt Fans reportedly made it to the Camp Nou for Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final despite leaving fans only allocating 5 000 tickets.
The Germans ousted Barça from the competition when Philip Kostic’s double in a 3-2 victory gave Eintracht a 4-3 aggregate lead.
While Barça is expecting overwhelming support from the stadium ESPN reports that there are almost 30,000 Eintracht supporters among the 79 468 crowd.
“Honestly, what happened today makes me feel embarrassed and ashamed. “There are a lot of other supporters, and not many of us,” Laporta told Barca TV.
“I am so sad.
“What we can avoid is certain conditions but in the meantime, we have to work harder. We cannot allow these conditions to happen.”
Coach Xavi Hernandez called the situation an “incorrect convention” and said it did not help his team, who won their first win in 16 games in all competitions.
“I tried to tell the players that what was important was what was going on in the stadium, but logically, this could affect us. “Obviously,” Xavi told reporters.
“We tried to focus on the game but we weren’t good. It has nothing to do with one thing and another. It’s not an excuse,” he added.
“It doesn’t help us, but in the arena, we are not good and we are not competitive.”
