Bishop Zondo’s rape trial continues in the North Gauteng High Court – SABC News

The rape trial of the head of the Rivers of Living Waters Church, Archbishop Stephen Bafana Zondo, is expected in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Wednesday morning.

Zondo faces 10 chargesincluding defeating the ends of justice and indecent assault.

According to court documents, the priest repeatedly stabbed his relative at Sebokeng’s house in 1980 and gave him sweets to keep him quiet.

He alleged that he raped other women in his church because he was delivered through prayer.

Evidence on camera

On Monday, a third witness testified on camera following the state’s request.

The witness also testified that the Commission for Promotion and Protection of Rights of Cultural, Religious and Language Communities (CRL Rights) talks about protection.

But the church did not agree.

“Some people are driven by fear, or they know that what they are saying is not true. What we don’t understand is that when he went to the CRL office he was live on TV but today things have changed, he is asking to give evidence on camera. “

“That doesn’t affect us, we agree, we don’t have any problems, it’s not even a setback, it’s a victory we say when you know you’re telling the truth, there’s nothing to fear but if you speak. the truth,” said Sello Modibedi of the church.

Modibedi said they were happy about the progress of the case.

“We are happy that they have brought this matter to court. Our father will no longer go to the public court, he has been tried for many years, and the court has tried him and found him guilty.”

Outside the court, Zondo’s fans continued to support him, singing church songs.

On the other hand, a group of people who go by the name of Murendeni came out against the pastor.

“We support the Zondo rape victims who were raped and whose houses were destroyed because of it. We have different churches against the abuse of women and children,” said one said a man supporting the alleged victims.
