Botswana’s health and wellness department says researchers are studying a new coronavirus mutation that has been detected in four individuals in the country.
It says through social media that the mutations have been registered as a new variant of Omicron. The ministry says that the four cases are currently being monitored to obtain further information on the distribution and severity of the variant.
The ministry says, along with international assistance, is still investigating the properties of this omicron subdivision to provide further information on its behavior.
It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. Researchers are also investigating whether COVID-19 vaccines are effective against this strain.
The ministry said the four infected people had been fully vaccinated and had mild symptoms. The public is encouraged to vaccinate and take booster shots, if eligible.
