Boucher was not happy that Petersen joined the test team. He said he deserves the praise of the 28-year-old best player and series.

“Kegan probably didn’t start as much as he wanted for the West Indies,” Boucher told reporters Friday.

“He didn’t start very well in the supersports park, but he was always showing signs of what we’re looking at right now. He’s just sticking to the gun and putting a guy like Dean next to him. Who do you really support him with him who thinks he is in a good position?

“I think he’s a tough nut. Batting on test cricket number 3 needs to be tough, know the game, and technically sound.

“Hopefully he’s getting better and better. In our condition, it’s a very difficult position to fight in 3rd place.

“The way he went through the series, I’m at a loss because in a big series for such a big player, his guy in the series was perfectly worthy.”

Petersen scored the highest score in a three-game test series, averaging 46.00 and 276 points in three and a half centuries.

His journey with Protea is over for now, as he will probably be resting for a Protea tour to New Zealand next month.

Meanwhile, Boucher’s accusation shifts attention to the three-game ODI series against India, starting Wednesday in Pearl.
