Carlos Ghosn ‘surprised’ by French international arrest warrant – SABC News

Fugitive ex-car executive Carlos Gon A spokesperson for Ghosn said he was surprised by an international warrant requested by a French magistrate in a case involving an investigation into the suspicious flow of money between Renault and an Omani dealer.

The designers of the Renault-Nissan automotive alliance have been fighting several investigations since their flight from Japan to Lebanon in late 2019.

“It is surprising that Ghosn has always worked with the French authorities,” Ghosn’s French spokesman said of the international arrest warrant published in the Wall Street Journal.

Nanterre prosecutors confirmed that the investigative judge had issued five international arrest warrants against Ghosn and the current owner or former director of Suhail Bahwan Automobiles, an Omani vehicle distributor.

A Japanese investigation has sparked a dizzying fall in grace. Carlos GhosnHe lived like a jet, owning real estate in Paris, Rio de Janeiro and Beirut, and was held for several months in a Tokyo concentration camp where he was placed under house arrest.

He escaped Japan by hiding in a box on a private plane.

At the time of his escape, Ghosn was awaiting trial on charges of underestimating the 9.3 billion yen ($85 million) compensation in Nissan’s financial statements over 10 years and making him wealthy at his employer’s expense by paying car dealerships.

Ghosn, who denies any wrongdoing in his case, remains in his childhood hometown of Lebanon, which has no extradition treaty with Japan and a policy not to extradite his people.

Ghosn holds French, Lebanese and Brazilian passports.

French prosecutors claim Ghosn has raised millions of dollars in Renault funding through an Omani auto distributor for personal use, including the purchase of a 120-foot yacht.

In early 2020, French prosecutors intensified their investigation into Ghosn’s arrogant deal and his lavish party at the Palace of Versailles in 2014.

In an interview with Reuters last year, Ghosn said he was preparing a lengthy process to reveal his name to French authorities.

Ghosn was chairman of Nissan and Mitsubishi and CEO of Renault when he was arrested in Japan in 2018.
