Cataract Treatment Campaign in Chad under AFAB

Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) ( And the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Chad have two cataract treatment campaigns under the Phase 2 (Generation II) of the Alliance to Fight Avoidable Blindness (AFAB). Was carried out. In this regard, two cataract surgery campaigns were conducted in the cities of Oum Hadjer and Abeche in Chad.

These campaigns were carried out by the National Program for Blind Management (NPCB) with the financial support of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA).

As a result of the two campaigns, 11,000 patients underwent vision tests, of which 1,020 benefited from cataract surgery.

Cheick Mahamat Assileck, A native of the city of Oum Hadjer, who has suffered from blindness for six years and has benefited from the campaign, said: “I haven’t been able to see it for the last six years because of double cataracts. My life has turned over, I had to stay home. I work as a teacher at the Koran school. I quit, but thanks to Allah, I was able to regain my eyesight thanks to this cataract surgery campaign. I am very pleased to resume teaching the Koran to the children in my village. I myself and my students are creating Duaa for the Ministry of IsDB, ISFD, BADEA, and the Health Team for this generous act.

Building on the success of the first generation, IsDB and ISFD will introduce a second generation of alliances aimed at benefiting 13 IsDB member countries: Burkina Faso, Chad, Comoros, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti and Guinea.
