Census 2022 | Nearly 200,000 households in the Northern Cape – SABC News

Nearly 200,000 households in the Northern Cape have been counted in the 2022 census. The South African Statistics Office (Stats SA) in the province started badly last month due to delays in the training of field staff.

Northern Cape Stats SA’s head, Deon Kleinsmith County, says it’s doing everything it can to have more than 400,000 homes and a population of 1.3 million.

“The population count is going well. We reached about 8 million homes in the country and in Norðurhöfði almost 200,000 have been insured and when we look at the data, people have chosen to complete the questionnaires themselves. We have seen that in the whole country about 456,000 households have registered for this option and in Norðurhöfði about 1%, which is about 450,000 who have chosen to do it themselves, “says Kleinsmith.

Meanwhile, those who are still waiting for the count are losing patience.

“I do not remember ever being counted. I always see the statistics and the numbers, but I do not know if I am part of it or not, “says one resident.

Another resident says; “I have not been counted; even my friends at the meetinghouse have not been counted. So we feel like we’re not there. We are not being taken seriously. “
Stats SA in the Northern Cape says counting continues:
