Chief of Police: Major murders across Gauteng are isolated – SABC News

In the last incident, a student student was shot dead in the informal settlement of Motsoaledi and several others were injured. Four others were shot dead in the informal settlement of Thembelihle in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg.

The attacks come in the wake of the murder of six people in Alexandra this week. They were shot in armed robbery

National Commissioner of Police Fannie Masemola along with Gauteng Police Chief Elias Mawela and Minister of Police Bheki Cele attended the criminal agreement in Alexandra Township.

Unique events

Masemola says there is no link between the recent number of killings in Gauteng and no evidence that they are coordinated. Masemola says the incidents are isolated crime.

He adds: “The leaders of this community who were sharing with us information that was telling us which way to look. Some of the leaders they were telling us that the people who commit crimes in Alexandra are mostly street robbers and are young people. Those who walk around, they kill, they stab, they pick up mobile phones. “

Revolution

Elias Mawela says the police could not have broken through in the murder of six in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg, without information from the community.

He says a total of eight people have been arrested and are directly connected to the murder of six people, including a radio broadcaster at the local station Alex FM.

“In most cases, we are on the right track to reach the suspects in an area where we have not yet been arrested. We already know who we are looking for. And it’s not about there being coordination from one incident to another. Yes, South Africans, we ask them to help us and provide information. We have expanded our operations throughout the country. As of today, we will have operations in most provinces. ”Mawela explains.

Mawela has promised that police officers will be receptive to information shared by the community.
