City Power can not confirm when electricity will be restored in Joburg CBD – SABC News

City Power says it will not be able to decide when electricity will be restored in most parts of Johannesburg CBD and Selby following a power outage from the Fordsburg substation.
The disturbance occurred around 08:00 after a fire in an underground tunnel in Ntemi Piliso street triggered two main lines.
Smoke still billows from the holes near the underground tunnels where the fire broke out.
All teams are on site now to assess the impact, even though for security reasons we are not yet able to reach some parts of the underground. @CityofJoburgZA image.twitter.com/opDZ3rx00s– @CityPowerJhb (@CityPowerJhb) March 28, 2022
One feeds the substation that affects the entire CBD and the other the Selby substation that affects most of the industrial areas in the eastern part of the city.
Michael Sun, MMC for the city’s environmental and infrastructure services, says the underground situation is still dangerous.
“City Power technicians can not go down yet because it is still unsafe, but we will ensure that this issue is addressed. EMS is on site. City Power technicians are here. When we get down to the tunnel, we will be able to assess the damage. “
