Following President Ramafosa’s statement on 30 December 2021, Dr. Nkosazana Dramini Zuma, Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), has been tuned for Level 1 Covid-19 rules since midnight (30 December 2021). Announced the revision. The Minister of CoGTA is appointed under Sections 3 and 27 (2) of the Disaster Management Act of 2002 (Act No. 57 of 2002).

This decision follows the Cabinet’s decision on 30 September 2021 to move the country to alert level 1 and follows the meeting of the National Coronavirus Command and the Presidential Coordination Council.

The Cabinet has decided to further relax regulations, following a persistent reduction in infectious diseases, hospitalization and covid-related deaths after the delta mutation, and increased vaccination.

The following fixes are now applied at alert level 1.

  • Curfew: The curfew has been lifted so far, and the government will closely monitor future implications.
  • Rally: The maximum number of indoor meetings will increase to 1000, and the maximum number of outdoor meetings will be 2000. If the venue is too small to accommodate these people at a reasonable social distance, it will be less than 50 people per person. You can use the venue’s capacity of cents. This includes religious service, political events, social gatherings, as well as restaurants, bars and taverns.
  • Alcohol Sales: In accordance with normal license terms, both off-site and on-site consumption is permitted.
  • Masks: Wearing masks in public places is still compulsory, and not wearing masks when needed remains a criminal offense.

We thank all South Africans for their continued support of the government’s efforts to contain the pandemic. We encourage them to continue doing so until the pandemic is in full control.

We urge those who have not been vaccinated since the age of 12 to work very urgently to mitigate the challenges posed by Covid-19.

Distributed by the APO Group on behalf of the South African Government.
