Maart joins from Sekhukhune FC where he spent two seasons in the GladAfrica Championship and DStv Premiership. In the past season he played a total of 29 games and scored three goals for Babina Noko.

The midfielder’s club performances have earned him nine national team call-ups between 2021-2022 and he is now a regular in the Bafana Bafana squad. Maart will join the team for pre-season training this week.

Many believe this was the Chiefs’ best “transfer window” in quite some time, and there are talks that there could be another signing or two from Amakhosi before next season.

Who could the Chiefs sign next?

There’s no doubt the Chiefs are clearly making some ambitious moves in the transfer market in the off-season and in the 25-year-old Thabo Cele – who currently plays for the Polish side Radomiak radome – is a goal that remains associated with the club.

Cele has previously been cited as a hot recruit for Amakhosi, particularly when he was a free agent last year. However, he joined Radomiak on a two-year deal in October 2021.

It was first reported by Soccer Laduma that Chiefs may have made an offer of €100,000 (±R1.68m) to try and lure him back to South Africa, although Polish journalist Szymon Janczyk reports that Radomiak is keen to hire the services of Keeping Cele, who is still part of coach Mariusz Lewandowski, plans.

However, the latest report from the same publication signals the Chiefs’ intention that a renewed offer of around R3.4million could be made to try and lure Cele to Naturena.

“As far as I can tell, the Chiefs are really pushing it,” a source said Soccer Laduma. They really want him to join the site. They’re obviously trying everything to get him.”

In the meantime, Kobamelo Kodisang could also switch to the Kaizer Chiefs, although his overseas club triggers a two-year contract option.

There has been talk of Braga intending to loan Kodisang to the lower division, which is not a tempting prospect for the former Bidvest Wits playmaker who joined Braga three years ago.

“Braga has exercised its option on Kobamelo, that’s two more seasons,” said his agent Mike Makaab SABC sport. “They have told us they intend to loan him out to a second division club, which we are not happy with – we won’t accept that and the player doesn’t want that.”

In another interview with GagasiFMMakaab further announced talks were ongoing between all parties while confirming that Naturena could be a potential target if Kodisang leaves the Portuguese side.

“Braga exercised their two-year option but we knew they would. Because they spent three years developing KK. We made it clear to them that if they don’t see him as a member of their first team – either on loan or as a permanent transfer – we want him removed from the club.

“Is it possible for him to come back to South Africa? Of course it is. Did we have talks with the Kaizer Chiefs? Yes we have got that. Again, it is very difficult to complete something and they [Chiefs] understand that, they are mature. I have a fantastic relationship with the club…

“I can tell you there is only one South African football club that we go to at this point. And the reason is because they are the club that we hired. I hope I would say that in the next few weeks we can do something to (get) KK outside of Braga.

“Coming back home is one possibility. We spoke to Kaizer Chiefs about it, yes. Football business is complex, it’s not easy. We spoke to the player, we spoke to the football club in Portugal and when I saw that we spoke to Chiefs, we engaged with Chiefs.

“You have to understand that we cannot take this engagement to a formal level until Braga gives us the green light.”
