Covid-19: One death and 912 new cases were reported in SA

In South Africa, 912 new cases of Covid-19 were reported, representing a positivity rate of 4.7%.

Most of the new cases were recorded in Gauteng.

Breakdown of cases:

  • Gauteng – 33%
  • Western Cape – 23%
  • KwaZulu-Natal – 22%
  • northwest – 7%
  • East Cape – 4%
  • Mpumalanga – 4%
  • Free State – 3%
  • Limpopo – 3%
  • Northern Cape – 0%

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) estimates that there are 3,705,696 laboratory-confirmed cases in South Africa to date.

A Covid-19-related death has been reported in the past 24 to 48 hours, increasing the number of deaths to 99,893.

However, the NICD added: “Due to an ongoing inspection by the National Ministry of Health (NDoH), COVID-19 deaths may have lagged.”

According to the NICD, the number of hospital admissions has increased by 34 in the past 24 hours.
