Dudu Myeni expected to appear in court on Tuesday morning – SABC News

Former South African Airways (SAA) chairman Dudu Myeni is expected to appear in Johannesburg district court on Tuesday morning.

She is accused of naming a witness when she testified before the State Commission of Inquiry in November 2020, despite an order from the committee’s chairman, Raymond Zondo, to keep the name secret.

Myeni will be charged with overcoming the end of justice and two other charges of violating Commission laws and violating Commission regulations.

The witness, who testified behind closed doors, implicated Myeni in alleged uncertainties when she chaired the Mhlathuze Water Board in KwaZulu-Natal.

In 2020, Myeni was declared CEO for life by the Supreme Court of Pretoria.

The Citizens’ Report revealed that Dudu Myeni led the SAA under a cloud of fear and intimidation:

In 2020, Kate Hofmeyr warned Myeni’s lawyer not to disclose the identity of Mr X. “Mrs Myeni, I would like to warn you not to refer to this witness as anything other than Mr X.”

Myeni replied: “Frankly, I feel so bad about all this because I do not mean to disrespect anyone and in particular, I do not mean to disrespect the Commission or the President. I feel really bad. Mrs. Hofmeyr, if I have mentioned him again, it would be out of… first, maybe, I do not know. I did not hear in myself whether I said his name or not. One, it was unbelief. Two, it was a feeling that followed and the feeling betrayed. I apologize. If I’m saying it again, it’s really what I am … I do not think my mind is in it. I apologize.”
