E Ink’s new color e-paper is fast enough to play video.

E Ink has unveiled a new version of the “Kaleido” color e-paper color display. Can play animations and videos. It can also support displays up to 13.3 inches. Gizmodo report: Kaleido led to Kaleido Plus, which provided some major improvements, but is now being replaced by the newly announced Kaleido 3. Haven’t had a chance to see the Kaleido 3 in person yet, but according to E Ink, “By optimizing the design of the ePaper modular structure, the E Ink Kaleido 3 has a 30% increase in color saturation compared to the previous generation.” That’s not a stark contrast on paper (pun intended) and Kaleido 3 still only supports 4,096 colors, but personally, the improvements between versions are usually much more obvious.

E Ink also claims that the Kaleido 3, which will be available in three sizes (7.8 inches, 10.3 inches, and 13.3 inches), from e-readers to larger tablets, features new front-lit technology to reduce the amount of e-books. Blue light reflected off the screen to make it easier to read at night without resorting to the LED’s warm color temperature option, which reduces the accuracy of the displayed colors. The most exciting upgrade for Kaleido 3 is that E Ink claims to have improved the display’s responsiveness, which “allows the module to play animation and video, providing new options for digital reading and writing in educational and professional applications.” is to do it.
