Eastern Cape wind farm set to build skills and ensure community development – SABC News

A multi-million Rand community wind farm has finally been launched in the Kouga region of the Eastern Cape.

The Kouga Wind Farm Community Development Trust will spend R300 million over five years, focusing on areas like Umzamowethu, Sea Vista, KwaNomzamo and Kruisfontein.

The beneficiaries will be equipped with the necessary skills in the energy sector and will also have a 26% stake in the financing of the Industrial Development Corporation.

Dr Tlale Nathane of the Coega Community Trust says community participation is crucial and the renewable energy sector plays a vital role in job creation.

“It is important that the board of directors establish a community development trust so that development is sustainable development and you are talking about sustainable development, development based on the needs of the population,” explains Nathane.
