Eritrea and China agree to strengthen strategic partnership

President Isaias Afweriki today welcomed a senior delegation from China at the State Council, led by State Council members and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Minister Wang Yi sent President Xi Jinping’s message to President Isaias and called on him to visit China for extensive discussions on bilateral strategic partnerships.

President Isaias, under the command of the Chinese Communist Party, praised China’s remarkable progress over the last 100 years for the benefit of the Chinese people and the world as a whole. He also paid tribute to China’s important role in the arrival of a balanced world order premised on respect for international law.

President Isaias also elaborated on Eritrea’s development priorities and Eritrea’s view of mutually important regional and international issues.

Similarly, both sides have also agreed to work on a joint development program that includes human resources development, infrastructure, the development of Mitsiwa and Assab ports, as well as the mining sector.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the consensus between the two countries’ views and positions on major issues and thanked Eritrea for its positive attitude.

Wang Yi also confirmed that China has rejected unilateral and illegal sanctions against Eritrea.
