Eritrea Cycling Championship Begins – Africa Business

The 2022 Eritrea Road Cycling Championship kicks off today, June 24, at the Asmara Martyrs Cemetery area with individual time trials.

In the men’s junior category which covered a distance of 18 km, Aklilu Arefaine, Samuel Haile, and Yoel Habteab took first, second and third place, respectively.

Arsema Woldemicael also won the women’s junior category which covered the 9 km distance, while Niat Teklehaimanot from Denden Club and Fithawit Teklu from Arag Club came in second and third.

In the elite women’s and under 23 categories who covered a distance of 18 km, Danait Fitsum and Adiam Dawit from Denden Club won Gold and Silver medals respectively while Milena Yafet won Bronze medals.

Men’s elite category and U-23 who cover a distance of 36 km are highly expected by bicycle lovers. Thus, Eritrean Profession cyclist Biniam Ghirmay finished the race in 43 minutes, 36 seconds and 76 micro-seconds and became the fastest Eritrean racer of 2022.

Merhawi Kudus finished 15 seconds behind Biniam and Amanuel Gebrezgiabher finished 27 seconds behind Biniam to finish third.
