Eskom announces new week loadshelling phase 3

Electricity company Eskom has announced that phase 2 loading will be introduced on Sunday evening – with phase 3 loading ramp following on Monday and Tuesday next week.

Phase 2 load shedding will be conducted on Sunday night from 5pm to 10pm.

Phase 3 load shedding will be carried out at the same times on Monday and Tuesday – thereafter Phase 2 load shedding will be in effect during those times for the rest of the week.

All changes at these times will be communicated.

The power utility said load shedding is needed due to further breakage in generation capacity, with losses due to unplanned interruptions sitting above 17,500MW.

It warned earlier that the country is not under much tension due to the colder weather and demand for the system during peak hours.

Consumers are encouraged to reduce demand by switching off non-essential appliances and reducing usage during peak hours – mornings from 5am to 9am, and evenings from 4pm to 10pm.
