Eskom generation boss goes up

Eskom has announced the dismissal of its group director for generation, Phillip Dukashe. In a statement on Monday (May 9), the energy company said that Dukashe’s last day will be May 31, 2022.

“In his letter of resignation and discussions with Eskom directors, Mr Dukashe emphasized the critical need to strike a balance in favor of his responsibilities for health, family and work,” Eskom said. “Phillip leaves behind a competent team to ensure the sustainability of the generational division.”

Rhulani Mathebula will in the meantime act as the group director for generation while the recruitment process is initiated, Eskom said. Mathebula is an experienced general manager of power station and had served as group executive generation prior to Phillip’s appointment.

“We salute Phillip for his rich legacy of selfless leadership, integrity and excellence in serving Eskom and the country for the past 26 years and standing up forever and doing what is right and honest.

In a separate statement on Monday, Eskom announced that the South African public had warned that, with the energy system severely curtailed during the evening peaks, load-shedding is likely if there are more unit disruptions.

Currently, the electricity company has 3,049MW offline on scheduled maintenance and 14,985MW of capacity unavailable due to malfunctions.

“Although the energy system has been repaired enough to fully meet the demand during the day, Eskom wants to warn the public that load-shedding may be required in the short term in the evening peaks if there are further interruptions at the moment. available capacity, “Eskom said.

The energy company added that it expects everyone to return a generation unit at the Kusile and Kendal power stations for the evening peak on Monday.
