Eskom is stepping up power outages to Phase 6 – SABC News

Eskom announced that due to unprotected organized action, rolling power outages of Section 6 will be implemented tonight from 4pm to 10pm.

Stage 4 will then be performed from 22:00 to midnight.

Eskom says continuous power outages will be reduced to Phase 2 by 5 a.m. Wednesday.

The electricity supplier claims the unprotected strike caused widespread disruption in its power plants.

Explanation of the stages of continuous power failure:

Earlier, Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter outlined a number of problems the electricity supplier faced.

Eskom said it experienced a further decline in production capacity due to ongoing labor market unrest and maintenance backlogs.

But Ruyter said at a news conference: “I have previously referred to the illegal organized action we are currently experiencing. Its intensity increased during the night. We have seen quite serious cases of intimidation in Lethabo. Overnight, four houses of plant operators were attacked with petrol bombs. About 70 maintenance staff are missing, which creates an awesome atmosphere. “

But Ruyter begged Eskom employees to stop illegal work and bring South Africans to the forefront.

“The management of Eskom, with the support of the Board of Directors, is working very hard to do what is necessary within our financial constraints to resolve the issues that arise and to ensure that we put an end to this illegal, illegal strike. action.”
