A civil rights organization deeply concerned by the upsurge in incidents of femicide
Cape Town – Another woman was murdered in Samora Machel, allegedly by a man she knows.
Nozipho Singatha was stabbed to death, allegedly by her ex-boyfriend who gave her money before the attack.
The 27-year-old friend who was present at the scene managed to escape after the suspect also allegedly tried to stab her.
Sunday’s incident came days after the body of Siphokazi Bokili, 34, was found half-naked after a night of drinking with the man who has since been charged with his murder.
The Singatha murder suspect has yet to be arrested, police spokesman Andre Traut said.
“The circumstances surrounding the death of a 27-year-old woman are being investigated after she was stabbed to death Sunday in Hintsa Ka Phalo Street in Samora Machel. The suspect has not yet been arrested, ”Traut said.
Spokeswoman for civil rights organization Ilitha Labantu, Siyabulela Monakali, said she was deeply concerned about the upsurge in incidents of femicide in the province.
“The province leads the country in all cases of violence against women. Violence against women occurs on incomprehensible scales and we should take action to eradicate the scourge. We call on our justice system to play its role in imposing severe penalties on all perpetrators of gender-based violence, ”said Monakali.
The leader of the community, Xolani Joja, said the men in the community should come together and fight against the killing of women.
“As a community, we condemn this kind of act by the suspect. No matter what happened, the suspect did not have the right to kill the victim. What’s even worse is that the suspect stabbed someone who lacks the power to fight back and is so cowardly of him. He has no place in our community and we will never forgive him for what he did. He is currently on the run, the community is so angry that they want to destroy the suspect’s house. All these inhumane acts committed by men against women give a bad image that all men are cruel and abusive killers. We are supposed to love and protect women, ”said Joja.
Meanwhile, Bellville Police have called on the public to help them with information that could lead to the arrest of the 36-year-old alleged rapist, Tashwill September.
“It is alleged that on 12/07/2019 at around 2:00 pm, the victim accompanied September to a pub in Parow where she consumed alcohol. They left the pub together in his vehicle and went to Parow station where he raped her, ”Traut said.
