As a result of a two-year investigation into the alleged sale of RDP houses, a former councilor from Emalahlen was arrested.
The Hawks revealed that their investigation into Linda Bhekiyise Goqo (57) had revealed alleged collusion with two other individuals.
Goqo, Xolani Manana (32) and Sharon Mtshali (36) were arrested by the Hawks on Friday and immediately taken to the Witbank Magistrate’s Court for their first appearance.
Goqo was said to have been a councilor and had a profit of around 307,000 rupees.
He allegedly used Manana to collect money from customers because he preferred cash payment.
Some of the funds were transferred to Mtshali’s bank account.
Mpumalanga Hawks spokesman Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi said Goqo, Manana and Mtshali were charged with fraud, theft and corruption.
Their arrest was followed by an investigation by the Hawks, which began in July 2020.
The complainants reported buying RDP houses from the suspects, which were never handed out.

“Mtshali took the money and handed it to Goqo. All the money [defrauded from the victims] It was R307,000. ”
Sekgotodi said Goqo, Manana and Mtshali each received bail of 2,000 rupees.
