The fraud and theft trial of the former executive mayor of JB Marks local municipality in the northwest, Khotso Khumalo, and his two co-defendants has been postponed to Ventersdorp Regional Court to the 8th of next month.
The trial was postponed after Khumalo’s legal representative told the court that his client was ill. Khumalo is expected to present a medical certificate at the next court hearing.
The court has also issued an arrest warrant for him, but it will be postponed until the next court hearing. Khumalo, along with Cecil Henry and Mohau Shuping, faces eight charges of theft and fraud of municipality funds. They have pleaded not guilty to all the charges against them.
Key witness William Coetzee is expected to undergo cross-examination by the defense team on his testimony when the trial begins in November.
