The N1 between Verkeerdevlei and Winburg is still closed to traffic during the clean-up operation.
This after two trucks collided around five o’clock on Sunday morning, with the result that three truck drivers died.
In one of the trucks, both the driver and his co-driver died. Officials say it will take longer to clean up the diesel.
Vehicles traveling on the N1 from Bloemfontein turn onto the Karee Dam off-ramp with traffic from Winburg to Brandfort Road.
A spokesman for the Emergency Medical Service (EMS), Sipho Towa, said police were still investigating the cause of the accident.
The Mangaung fire brigade says the area is being cleaned.
“They are busy cleaning up and after cleaning they will also clean up leaks. What takes a long time is due to the diesel leak on the ground. So we encourage pedestrians to be patient and follow the instructions of the police. “
