ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa says government is making progress on tackling unemployment, poor service delivery and gender-based violence.

Ramaphosa spoke during a Good Friday service at the Alshaddai Tabernacle International Church in Ermelo Mpumalanga.

He has that too called on the churches to pray for those affected by the floods in KwaZulu Natal.

“Clearly there is a lot to do in KwaZulu-Natal and it has rained a few times in the Eastern Cape and we have already lost one person in the Eastern Cape. The entire east of our country is therefore affected by climate change. Climate change is a reality and it is with us now. So we have to be serious about how we are about it.”

Ramaphosa says they are Working day and night to restore infrastructure and return to normal the lives of people affected by flooding in KwaZulu Natal.

“Just as we thought it was safe to get out of the state of disaster, we had another disaster. A natural disaster has struck our country and in particular our province of KwaZulu-Natal where nearly 395 people have already lost their lives. I went to a family that had lost 10 family members.”

Ramaphosa says he is aware of issues in service delivery, such as: B. bad roads in cities like Ermelo. He also urged residents to play a significant role in the fight against corruption.

Meanwhile, some of the community members say the lack of clean water and constant power outages are among their serious challenges.

“The problem is that the road infrastructure is collapsing and there are big potholes even in the city, which is worrying the citizens of Msukalikwa Municipality.”

“Our main problem is the bad roads and we have neither water nor electricity on site. So it’s too much.”

President Ramaphasa also urged citizens to continue to comply with COVID-19 regulations, particularly those who will gather in churches in large numbers this weekend.
