Haiti’s Supreme Prosecutor has asked the judge, who oversees the investigation into the assassination of President Jovenel Moise, to prosecute Ariel Henry as a suspect and ordered the Immigration Department not to leave him.
Prosecutor Bedford Claude said in a letter that phone records showed Henry had contacted twice with the main suspect in which Moise was murdered on the night of the crime on July 7. ..
The suspect, a former Justice Ministry official who was publicly defended by Henry, is currently on the run.
In a letter to the country’s Immigration Department, Claude wrote that Henry “should be barred from leaving the country by air, sea, or road because of serious estimates related to the assassination of the president.” ..
A member of the Prime Minister’s Communications Bureau said it did not have immediate comments.
Haiti’s Civil Protection Agency demanded that Henry resign on Saturday and leave himself to the judicial system.
Henry argued on Twitter that he wouldn’t be distracted by his work.
Moses was shot dead when an assassin attacked his private residence on the hill above Port-au-Prince, plunging a poor Caribbean country into turmoil and political void.
