Firefighters are still battling the blaze on Mount Helderberg near Somerset West, outside Cape Town, after strong winds last night.
According to Jermaine Carelse, spokesperson for the Höfði fire and rescue team, “the fires have spread to the local nature reserve. No property has been damaged at this stage, but firefighters are monitoring the danger on houses on the slopes of the mountain.
“Strong winds are still prevailing in the area,” Carelse added.
The fire broke out earlier this week and has caused extensive damage to vegetation and some pine plants.
