Thulasizwe Zulu, mayor of Zululand province, says he hopes Misuzulu ka Zwelithini, the elected king of AmaZulu, will follow in the footsteps of his father, the late King Goodwill Zwelithini.
Zulu has remembered the late king as a unifier who fought for peace.
He spoke at the memorial service for the deceased king and his wife, Regent Queen Mantfombi Dlamini-Zulu, at the KwaKhangelamankengane Royal Palace in Nongoma in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
“As the inhabitants of Zululand, we are here to honor our late King … King Zwelithini kaBhekuZulu who was unifying, the guardian of our heritage and the promoter of social cohesion. The late King loved peace, he loved development, he loved reconciliation, and we hope our King Misuzulu will continue his father’s legacy of advancing the Zulu people.
Meanwhile, the brother of the late King AmaZulu, Prince Mbonisi Zulu, has questioned whether MisuZulu kaZwelithini, the elected king, has been nominated by the Zulu royal family as his successor. He spoke on the sidelines at prayer time.
Prince Mbonisi Zulu says the family has yet to decide who will ascend the throne.
“Because people have been misled, we take the king’s children at the same level, until we come together and then we can invent the name of the king elected to take the throne. At the moment it is not possible to greet someone, even the throne has not been cleansed. I’m saying I’m taking him as one of the sons of kings or princes and princesses, so there’s no difference. As I say to you, we need to sit down and make the right decision about who will take the throne. “
