Jane Campion lashes out at critics’ selection speech ‘bad’ [watch]

The Power of Dogs the director, Jane Campion, won the Best Director Award at the 27th Critics Choice Awards on Sunday, March 13 at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles. Although Campion won one of the evening’s biggest awards, it was his welcome speech that shook the world.

In his speech, the star director spoke to tennis giants Venus and Serena Williams pointing out that they “don’t play against guys who like him.” Responding to Campion’s statement, a tweep said his remarks were “ugly and unspoken”.

Her name is Jane Campion The Power of Dogs has received numerous awards in 2022 including Best Film Award at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs). Campion was the only woman to be named in the category of Best Director at the Critics Choice Awards and came out victorious.

Using Twitter to share their thoughts on Jane Campion’s Critics Choice Awards speech, a tweep said her statement about the Williams sisters was “too bad and too unimportant”.

“A white woman in short,” tweep added.

“Obviously not necessary, just awesome, that’s a big personal win,” another tweep wrote.

“He does this all the time. Say terrible things and say foolish things right away. ”
