Japan will take appropriate action on the release of oil as it monitors global developments, the ministry said on Friday, before a meeting of the International Energy Agency (IEA) later in the day.
U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Thursday the biggest release from U.S. emergency oil storage and challenged the oil industry to further dig deeper into efforts to reduce rising oil prices during the Russia-Ukraine war.
“It is not clear whether only the US will make a release or whether the United States will plan at the IEA meeting,” Japanese Foreign Minister Koichi Hagiuda told reporters.
“In any case, we want to do better as we look at the global situation,” he said.
