- Jesse Kriel praised the influence of the two Steins, Morne and Fran. Springbok aims to effectively convey their experience to the British and Irish Lions.
- Midfielders believe that the duo’s greatest strength is its ability to minimize words and maximize behavior.
- “I have nothing left to do,” Kriel said after being injured early in the 2019 World Cup.
Just because they’re two of the most grizzly members of the Springbok squad doesn’t mean Stein, Morne, and Franz are stealing shows at national camps.
In fact, Jesse Kriel is inspired by the duo’s effort to let the conversation take over as the highly anticipated series of British and Irish Lions creep in more and more.
Morne Steyn, the only member of the expansion group who played in the 2009 Epic Edition, revealed that he will be competing in international rugby with a 52-meter series deciding penalty in his second test at Loftus.
“Looking at Steins, we expect experienced players to always speak and give advice,” said Kriel, a member of the midfield team featuring Franz.
“Absolutely not. They focus on doing the basics really well and minimizing mistakes. For them, it’s an example. They set the standard in training and I’m completely committed.
“When words are needed, they step up and make good contributions when needed. They are the type of players I admire and we focus on following those standards. “
Kriel, who missed a year to call Morne Stein a Loftus teammate, had the opportunity to play with him at the highest level.
“It’s really special,” he said.
“In 2009, I was still in school, especially I remember that great Jack Foley try and, of course, Morne’s kick. It’s great that Morne is back on the team.”
Cliel, meanwhile, is one of the few unlucky people to have been injured in the 2019 World Cup victory, so he doesn’t think he’s left behind.
“That’s not the case. I dedicated everything until I was injured in the tournament. We were still part of it and were able to contribute. We never missed it.
“This is a new, challenging series. There is no unfinished work on my part. I’m just ready to contribute in a positive way.”
