Johannesburg Mayor Mpho Phalatse and Deputy Minister for Human Settlements Pamela Tshwete families left homeless after a devastating fire in Alexandranorth of Johannesburg.
The fire damaged about 200 homes in an informal settlement over the weekend. No injuries or deaths were reported.
However, about 150 families were left homeless.
Joburg Emergency Services says an electrical appliance was on fire when power was restored to load shedding.
Joburg’s spokeswoman Mabine Seabe says the Home Office will also be called in to help those who have lost their identity documents.
“A site has been identified for temporary shelter and as mentioned, several departments provide support as well as blankets, mattresses and food,” says Seabe.
