At the invitation of Foreign Minister Othman Surrey of Eritrea, Wang Yi, Minister of State and Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China, made an official visit to Eritrea from January 4th to 5th, 2022. During the visit, Secretary of State and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held bilateral talks with Eritrea’s Foreign Minister Ottoman Surrey and President Isaias Afwerki, respectively. Both sides exchanged deep views on various bilateral, regional and international issues of common interest in a heartfelt and candid manner.

Both sides were encouraged by the confirmation of the further integration and development of the strategic partnership by the heads of state of both countries, and agreed that the strategic partnership between the two countries is rooted in the tradition of mutual support based on the similarity of historical trajectories. .. Two countries and their common values ​​aimed at promoting peace, stability and prosperity of the world and the region, respecting the rule of law, independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and cooperation.

Both sides have agreed to actively and practically cooperate in various areas of mutual interest within the framework of the Strategic Partnership and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

Both sides supported the common values ​​of peace, development, justice, justice, democracy, and freedom of all mankind, and agreed to oppose hegemonic interference with other countries’ internal affairs on the pretext of democracy and human rights. The Chinese side opposes unilateral sanctions against Eritrea. The Eritrean side reaffirms its adherence to one China principle.
