Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber revealed on Friday that he was diagnosed with the virus, which left him with half his face paralyzed and had to cancel a scheduled show to focus on his recovery.
In a video posted to Instagram, Bieber said he suffered from Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which affects nerves in the ears and face.
“I can’t smile from the side,” he pointed out, noting that his right eye didn’t blink. These nostrils do not move. So my face was completely paralyzed.”
Bieber, 28, said she can’t physically perform her scheduled shows, but is doing facials and is expected to recover. “I will go back to normal,” he said. “It’s just time and I don’t know how long it will take.”
Bieber rose to fame at the age of 13 and became a worldwide pop phenomenon with songs such as “Baby” and “Believe”.
He won two Grammys out of 22 nominations, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year nods for “Peaches”.
