“Khune should just switch to Royal AM,” insists the former player

Khune played for Chiefs in an MTN8 clash against Mamelodi Sundowns but almost no playing time for most of the season has led to questions about his future at Amakhosi.

APPROVED: CHIEFS ‘OFFICIALLY’ SECURE KEY SIGNING AHEAD OF NEXT SEASON

According to a recent report on Soccer LadumaKhune, 34, who was handed a two-year deal with an option to extend last season, could potentially work for the club after retiring.

However, former goalkeeper Aime Kitenge doesn’t believe Khune is anywhere near retirement age and simply needs to move to a club where he would play more.

“Khune is of the right age to be a goalkeeper and I don’t think he’s ready to become a goalkeeper coach,” said Kitenge, quoted by Kickoff.com.

“Khune can play at least two more years. Gianluigi Buffon is still playing at 44 but Khune is 34 but some people say he has to retire.

“I know Khune very well and he’s still the best goalkeeper and all he needs is just to play.

“All Khune needs is a chance to play and I would recommend he moves to Royal AM or even AmaZulu. I know he loves Kaizer Chiefs because it’s the only team he’s ever played for, but I think Khune should just switch to Royal AM.”

Khune has preached patience even though he rarely plays

Khune himself recently shared a brief message on social media which seemed to suggest he is not losing faith despite being in the pecking order when playing.

“Hard at work, patience!” he explained.

More recently, caretaker manager Arthur Zwane has made it clear that the veteran should simply remain ‘patient’, although his playing time appears to be far from over.

He really wants to play.” said Zwane.

“He pushes himself in training. It’s just a matter of choice. Brandon (Petersen) is fine, Bruce (Bvuma) and (Daniel) Akpeyi are fine. The opportunity will come again and surely he will get his fair share (of appearances).

“We still believe in him, he has that quality, the experience and being in the dressing room motivates the other players.

“He’s part of the team whether he’s playing or not. He is a positive person and is happy when it is his turn soon. He’s a 24-hour pro.”
