Justice Minister Ronald Lamola has assured South Africans that the process to extradite the Gupta brothers is on track.
On the sidelines of a state visit to Ivory Coast in Pretoria on Friday, Lamola said his department had filed a temporary arrest warrant with authorities in the United Arab Emirates, where the brothers are currently in prison.
He says the extradition request will be filed in time. “The extradition agreement states that from the date of the arrest, the extradition request must be submitted within sixty days to submit the provisional arrest warrant, and the process is ongoing, and there have been exchanges and discussions between the two central authorities and the prosecutor’s office. From the UAE to ensure the paperwork is in order, so I can assure South Africans that we can meet the deadline.”
The news is a The arrest of the Gupta brothers was broken in early June 2022 with the intervention of Interpol but the issuance process is expected to take time.
